Thank you for taking part in this survey is looking at that youth service or work element of a Head of Service’s responsibility. We had 41 Respondents from Heads of Service over Christmas and the New Year
Tim Loughton said at the recent NYA\LGA Conference that Youth Services had been a soft target for cuts; this is borne out in the survey conducted with Heads of Young People’s Services.
We calculate that over £100m will be removed from the local authority operational budgets by March 2012, with just under 3,000 FTE staff being lost. Losing their skills and expertise will have a serious impact not just direct delivery of projects but on a whole range of local neighbourhood partnerships that are making a real difference to communities and young people.
Universal provision, VCS funding and management, will be hardest hit with only 4% of Local Authorities not cutting at least one of these areas and 15% cutting them all together. It is also clear that the picture across the country is mixed – with some young people losing out altogether.
