There was a good response to the call for Local Authorities to pilot the “Services for Young People VFM Self Assessment Tool”. This has been developed the Audit Commission and CHYPS and it is hoped the Tool will go live from by the end of March.
This is a brief introduction to the Tool and what you can expect from it.
"What is the purpose of this resource pack and who is it for?
This pack can help you review services for young people in your area to better understand how well they deliver value for money, achieve the desired outcomes and to identify scope for improvement.
This is a voluntary, online, self-assessment tool for elected members and senior staff with an interest in services for young people. It is intended to be a high level diagnostic and can form the basis of scrutiny of services for young people. It is relevant for county councils, unitary and metropolitan authorities, district councils, fire and rescue authorities, the police, voluntary and private sectors – indeed anyone locally who is involved in commissioning or delivering services for young people. This tool is intended to compliment the National Youth Agency’s Quality Mark for Practitioners.
How does the resource pack work?
The resource pack is organised into five modules:
-
Local Provision
-
Governance and Accountability
-
Value for Money
-
Outcomes for Young People and Local Communities
-
Workforce and capacity
You can complete all of the modules or select only those where you feel you need to focus. The modules are not prioritised in the resource pack but are interlinked and by completing them all you will create an action plan to assure yourself you are providing the best services you can for young people locally at the best possible price"
