The British Youth Council will be bidding to the Department for Education to deliver their new England wide support service for youth participation in public decision making locally and nationally. This will include running the activities of the UK Youth Parliament.
The British Youth Council already provides a service to local authorities though its network of 620 youth councils/forums across the UK, and since April 2011, through the activities of the UK Youth Parliament. These services include training, resources, national conventions, campaigns and volunteering opportunities, as well as value added special programmes such as Young Inspectors, Councillor Shadowing, and Young Ambassadors.
We would like to design our new proposal based on need, and would like you, on behalf of those commissioning or supporting local authority stakeholders, to complete this brief survey to help us assess that need. Whilst we will work in partnership to provide the services, and will signpost other good practice we regard the partnership between the proposed national service, Youth Voice, and local authorities to be pivotal to its success.
We are promoting the survey with the help of the Confederation of Heads of Youth Services and the Local Government Association. Earlier in the year we completed a small survey of Local Authorities which indicated that most 97% were going to continue participation services, and 85% are already engaged with us.
Thank you in advance and we will publish the findings of this survey, whatever the outcome of the tender.
