CHYPS believes that a society that is ‘positive for youth’ is one in which young people feel able to enjoy their teenage years and are encouraged to make the most of their lives, confident in their identity as individuals and as members of their communities; where young people and adults work, play, live and learn alongside each other with mutual appreciation and respect.
As they grow young people should expect to have access to a range of activities, advice and support to grow in confidence, develop new skills and prepare for their adult life. An entitlement to wellbeing, or successful transition, should be the starting point of any young people’s policy.
For youth services there are key areas of young people’s policy and CHYPS has focused its response in 3 areas: Early Intervention, Commissioning and Evidencing Impact.
To support the “Positive for Youth” Policy, CHYPS argues:
- There should bean identified senior officer in each LA area with responsibility for young people’s services
- That Local Authorities should be required to ensure thatthere is an adequate and sufficientyouth work offerin their area for their young people
- Youth workers should be an integral part of the family support teams
