The Confederation of Heads of Young People’s Services (CHYPS) believes “Positive for Youth” will be a valuable guide for Local Authorities to help in the planning of services for young people in their areas. In particular we are pleased the statutory guidance on Positive Activities has been retained and will be strengthened through this review. The audits of local services by young people and the monitoring of their findings will strengthen youth services. We welcome also the recognition of the pivotal role youth work plays in personal and social development, including commissioning and delivery of specialist support for participation in Education, Employment or Training and family support teams.
Howver, for Positive for Youth to be successfully implemented, each Local Authority needs an identified Senior Officer within to be responsible for securing services for young people in their area.
