From Policy into Practice The 2011 CHYPS Convention
From Policy to Practice 7- 8 November.pdf326.62 KB
This year the Confederation of Heads of Young People’s Services Annual Convention will take place on 7th and 8th November 2011 at Aston University in Birmingham. The Convention will be of benefit to you in both these areas of Youth Policy and Youth Practice
This year we ask you to invite a colleague or elected member at a discounted rate to also be part of this unique opportunity to meet, learn and shape youth support services. For the second day consideration of Youth Practice, we would particularly welcome a voluntary or community organisation partner who you may wish to invite at a discounted day rate.
The Convention will take place at an important time both locally and nationally for Local Authority Youth Support Services. The Government is expected to publish a new Youth Policy by the end of the year.
This autumn the Government will also respond to the Education Select Committee report into services for young people. There will be the chance to reflect on the actions arising from the Education Select Committee, as well as developments from the report for Government by Graham Allen MP on ‘early intervention’. The Convention will give you the opportunity to take part in both roundtable and panel discussions.
At the same time Local Authority Youth Support Service leaders will be well along the road in designing the future direction of their services as they embark on getting agreement for funding and business plan decisions. The Convention will consider Youth Practice areas for:
- · Commissioning
- · Early Intervention
- · Evidencing impact
There will also be the chance to learn about new ways of working, with practical examples of what’s taking place elsewhere in the country:
- · The Employee-led mutual in Kensington & Chelsea
- · The “Diamond project” being developed in partnership by the North East Youth Work unit
- · Social Enterprise
- · Emerging Small Business models
- · Local Federations
In addition, there will be contributions colleagues from Ofsted, NCVYS, Community Matters, and the Money Advice Service.
This event will continue to be an ideal networking opportunity for colleagues to meet together and gain support from each other, which includes the facility for “hot topic” discussions.
The Convention is taking place with support from the
